Some respondents suffered from hypertension; specifically, 27 respondents (50.0%) had hypertension, and 27 (50.0%) did not. A significant association was found between sodium intake and the incidence of hypertension among the pre-elderly age group (45–59 years) in the working area of the Pantai Labu Community Health Center, Deli Serdang Regency. Respondents with excessive sodium intake were more likely to have hypertension compared to those with adequate sodium intake. Statistical analysis yielded a p-value of < 0.05, leading to the acceptance of the research hypothesis. The study results indicate that sodium intake is a contributing factor to hypertension in the pre-elderly age group. Therefore, controlling the consumption of high-sodium foods should be a priority in efforts to prevent and manage hypertension within the community.
