Data were collected through nutritional knowledge questionnaires and food type selection behaviors. Data analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents were ≥45 years old (71.9%), female (68.4%), high school educated (57.9%), self employed (26.3%), and had suffered from type 2 DM ≤ 2 years (63.2%). Most of the
respondents had a good level of nutritional knowledge (61.4%) and good food selection behavior (66.7%). The results of the Chi-Square test showed a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means that there is a significant relationship between nutritional knowledge and food selection behavior. The better the patient's nutritional knowledge, the better their behavior in choosing the appropriate food to manage type 2 DM.
