Abnormal vaginal discharge is a common health problem in pregnant women and can increase the risk of infection and pregnancy complications. The use of natural ingredients such as boiled betel leaf water (Piper betle) is believed to have antibacterial and antifungal effects that can help overcome abnormal vaginal discharge safely and effectively.
Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of giving boiled betel leaf water in reducing vaginal discharge in pregnant women.
Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach on 20 pregnant women who experienced abnormal vaginal discharge. Vaginal discharge data were measured before and after giving boiled betel leaf water for 7 days. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test to determine significant differences between conditions before and after treatment. Results: The results showed that before giving boiled betel leaf water, all respondents (100%)
experienced abnormal vaginal discharge. After treatment, 80% of respondents experienced normal vaginal discharge, and 20% still experienced abnormal vaginal discharge. Statistical analysis of the Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of - 4.000 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), which means there is a significant difference between the condition of vaginal discharge before and after being given boiled betel leaf water.
Conclusion: Giving boiled betel leaf water has a significant effect on reducing vaginal discharge in pregnant women. The use of boiled betel leaf water can be an effective and safe alternative natural therapy to overcomeabnormal vaginal discharge in pregnant women.
