IDENTIFIKASI KEBERADAAN BAKTERI COLIFORM METODE MOST PROBABLE NUMBER (MPN) PADA SUSU SAPI PERAH
Objectives: The main objective of this research is to identify the presence of bacteria in fresh cow's milk. Additionally, this
study aims to determine the quantity of coliform bacteria and identify the specific types present in the samples. Methods: This descriptive analytic study employed a cross-sectional approach. Fresh cow's milk samples were collected from several farms in Medan. The MPN method was used to estimate the number of coliform bacteria, followed by isolation on Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMBA) for identification. The study also involved Gram staining to confirm the bacterial species. Results: The results indicated that out of four samples tested, three showed positive results for coliform bacteria, with MPN values below 20 MPN/ml, thus meeting the safety standards set by Indonesian National Standard (SNI) No. 7388:2009. Escherichia coli and Klebsiella species were identified as the predominant coliform bacteria present.
